Mercy Road Counseling

Treatment Approach:

Types of Therapy:

Christian Counseling: Integrating Christian counseling with therapeutic modalities combines science and Biblical truths. An innate yearning for a connection with God is foundational with everyone. Forgiveness, love, and mercy may seem unreachable for those who are blocked by sin feel undeserving. This is addressed by dismantling personal barriers guided by The Word and psychological techniques.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): EMDR moves quickly to process distressing memories from the past. It is very common to not be aware that past issues are major influencers of present thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and body sensations. Trauma gets stuck in the nervous system and the brain is unable to process it. The memory storage is a barrier to learning. That is why people complain of repeating the same behaviors or attracting negative people and events into their lives.

The bilateral stimulation, through eye movements, sound, and tappers the client holds (can use all or one of the three) is able to reprocess the event(s) by releasing the old distressing thoughts. They are replaced with new ways of processing which become a positive perspective. The EMDR trained therapist has a supportive structured process which guides the client through each phase of healing.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Perspectives motivate behaviors. CBT is a model which actively explores thoughts which are not serving the client. People often have thoughts pop into their heads, act on them, and then ask themselves why they just behaved in a certain way. This model often coupled with the other models I use, supports the client in reframing or altering their thoughts resulting in outcomes more favorable to the client.

Solution-Focused Therapy: Collaborating to create a positive solution and new outlook on one’s life is the underlying foundation of Solution-Focused Therapy. The client’s strengths are explored and strengthened. As a result, their potential is displayed through new experiences and consciousness of characteristics formally unaware of. Supporting the client in building solutions is the foundation of this therapy.
